Muharram 2018 India begins on Tuesday, the 11th of September and will end on Tuesday, the 9th of October. The word Muharram is from the word ‘haram’, that means forbidden. Now we going to know Why is Muharram Celebrated.

Why is Muharram celebrated?

However, Muharram in India is not a celebration of joy. For the Muslims of the Shia community, Muharram marks as a period for historical awareness and self-reflection. Generally, Muharram in India is commemorating with prayers and fasting build up to the tenth day of Muharram. Finally, Ashura is the tenth day where the assassination at Karbala will recall.

In General, the tenth day of this festival is Ashura. On this day, Muslims gather and arrange massive processions. A few Shia sects observe Ashura via beating themselves with chains, cutting themselves with knives and sharp things.
